They don't want them affixed to wooden sticks or metal poles | 2017
Some years ago, New York City police imposed a
new rule on the city's demonstrations: it was forbidden to
fix protest signs to wooden sticks or metal poles. This
new rule inevitably brought changes in the way
protests were traditionally developed there, affecting
their choreography and movement. This change makes visible
how our acts of dissidence are forced to enter into
negotiation with systems of control. This installation
consists of a series of protest signs where wooden sticks
and metal poles are kept but the cardboard is replaced
with flimsy tracing paper. The signs were used for several
days until the paper was destroyed and had to be replaced.
