Statement
My work inquires into the production and massive distribution of images of nonconformity and dissent, interrogating art’s responsibility in the construction of a community - which necessarily engages with the structural changes fundamental to building an inclusive and diverse society. My work asks how images are understood in the context of a globalized world and market with reference to artists’ complicity and responsibility; when certain kinds of images are chosen for mass circulation and when they are ignored; when some types of narratives that have been structurally and historically silenced resurface as a widely accepted discourse; how a society changes the forms of violence that it tolerates and what this all depends on. I attempt to raise a series of questions to which there are no direct answers. Each context builds different possibilities every time, but as a citizen and as an artist I consider it necessary to ask how these conditions affect daily personal politics and ideas of statecraft.
