Conspicuous Demonstration | 2017
A series of digital images constructed from the
superimposition of hundreds of photographs of the same
action: a vinyl flag carried on a circular route in one
small place for hours. The title comes from the economic
term ‘conspicuous consumption’ that refers to the
excessive spending of money on luxury goods and services
to publicly demonstrate the economic power of the buyer.
The re-contextualization of the term points
to the idea of traditional demonstrations as a luxury activity that in many contexts is reserved
only for certain parts of the population.
